Stewart Davies

Stewart Davies was the chief executive officer for BT Exact — BT’s research, technology and IT operations business until March 2005.
Stewart joined BT as an apprentice in 1968 and has gained extensive product and business management experience. During the 1980s he developed designs for early digital switching systems and by 1994 he became department manager responsible for the integration of BT's national networks and associated customer service systems. In 1996 he led systems delivery across the whole BT group and following this was further promoted to director for BT’s network strategy, architecture and design.
In 1999 Stewart returned to Adastral Park near Ipswich, UK, as BT’s director of advanced communications engineering, becoming CEO of BTExact Technologies from April 2001.
BT Exact provided the specialist skills required to address the complex needs of BT’s customers, ensuring that customers gain full advantage from the opportunities created from new technologies. The inherent expertise of BT Exact's world-leading research facility, based at Adastral Park, held unrivalled experience in telecommunications management and design, and has won BT Exact its enviable portfolio of intellectual property. Stewart was responsible for the creation of Brightstar, BT’s technology incubator that spun out 6 high technology businesses in 2003.
As Director of BT’s Eastern region in the UK (1999 – 2002), Stewart played a pivotal role in the development of the Cambridge-to-Ipswich hi-tech corridor and IP-City initiatives that link Cambridge to Ipswich, with Adastral Park at its heart. Stewart was an active campaigner for the creation of the new University College Suffolk which has recently received government approval and funding.
